The Niagara River Yacht Club was founded in 1957 at what was the Niagara Park Marina, located at 1010 River Road in North Tonawanda (Western New York). The NRYC leased this facility from the City of North Tonawanda. In 2006 the City of North Tonawanda cancelled the club’s lease at that location. The NRYC then moved their location about ½ mile south on River Road and purchased the property formally known as Barry’s/Schooners Bar at 346 River Road (at Robinson Rd, NT). Floating docks were installed after the purchase of this property, which is located on the Little River (off the Niagara River near the mouth of the Erie Canal). The Niagara River Yacht Club is a working-members club, meaning all members pitch-in to maintain the upkeep of the facilities. By members having such involvement in the club allows annual membership dues to be reasonably priced. Throughout the year the NRYC organizes parties and events that help fund the club (see NRYC Club Events). Having such involvement from its members, makes this a tight-knit family environment. In addition, members have access to clean bathrooms, a kitchen area having cooking and serving equipment and a bar area with a variety of beverages that are reasonably price. Around the facility is a gazebo and covered picnic area with grills and tables where members can entertain family and friends. Also, there’s a variety of floating docks available for boats and jetskis. Docks at the NRYC can be rented by members and non-members (https://www.niagarariveryachtclub.org/dock-rental). Another perk is all members have the option to rent the club (for a nominal fee) to hold private parties.
